Come abroad for study or transfer and make local friends! Even if you are enthusiastic like this, it is actually quite difficult.
Particularly international students have a language barrier and can’t keep up with the speed at which local people speak.
It’s hard to get to know local people in the first place.
So How can we get local friends??

留学や転勤で海外に来て、現地の友達を作るぞ！って意気込んでも実際はなかなか難しいものです。
特に留学生は言葉の壁があり、現地の人の話すスピードについていけずスムーズにコミュニケーションをとることは大変です。
そもそも、現地の人と知り合いになる機会もなかなかありません。
では、どのようにすればいいのか？？
I highly recommend that using “Meet up” and join sports event such as volleyball, soccer and frisbee.
I know you’re hesitant to take the first step.
I was a little scared at first too. I was like will I be able to jump into the community among the locals?
But, you don’t need to worry about that.
we can easily communicate through sports even if you don’t have confidence to speak English.
Volleyball is especially good for making friends.
WHY?

I was able to make friends with many local people through volleyball events. I often hang out with them and go out to eat together.
Of course, you can also meet international students of various nationalities.
And, there are few Japanese.
Although language exchange event has a lot of Japanese, The proportion of Japanese is low in sports event, so you can make English environment.

Meet upというアプリを使ってバレーボールやサッカー、フリスビーなどのスポーツ系イベントに参加するがめちゃくちゃおすすめです。
最初の一歩をためらう気持ちはわかります。
僕自身も始めて行く時は少し勇気が必要だったし、カナディアンの中に一人で馴染めるだろうかと思っていました。
ただそんな心配する必要ありません！
たとえ英語に自信がなくてもスポーツを通して簡単にコミュニケーションが取れちゃうからです！
特にバレーボールは友達作りに最適です。
理由は３つあって
・手ぶらで参加できる
・チームスポーツ
・初心者歓迎
僕はバレーボールイベントを通してたくさんのローカルの友達を作れたし、今では遊びに行ったり一緒にご飯を食べ行く仲です。
もちろん他の国から来ている留学生とも仲良くなれます！
そして、日本人が少ないです。
言語交換イベントは日本語が多いですが、スポーツイベントは日本人の割合が少ないので、英語環境を作ることができます。
正直バンクーバーは日本人が非常に多く英語環境を作るのが難しいので、英語環境を作るには自ら行動しなきゃなんです（笑）
Just bring yourself
Don’t need to bring anything with you to participate. Hosts often bring balls and volleyball nets.

Also, There are a lot of free volleyball events on Meet up, so people who don’t want to spend as much money as possible are super happy! Like me lol
BTW, it doesn’t matter if you don’t wear sports outfit.

ホストの方がボールやネットを持ってきてくれることが多いので手ぶらで参加できちゃいます。
ホストの方々にはいつも感謝ですね。
ミートアップには無料のイベントが多いので、お金をあまりかけたくない！って人にはもってこいなイベントです。僕みたいに（笑）
ちなみにスポーツウェアがなくても私服で参加OKです（笑）
実際に僕もジーパンで参加することが多いです。
Team play!
As you know, volleyball is team sports. Participants are divided into several teams, and by talking to each other and following each other as you play, you’ll naturally get along with your teammates.
It’s like Just saying “Nice try” “Good play”.
I think the biggest attract of sports is making friends through short conversation even though we have different nationality, race and background.
You may have seen it on TV, in volleyball, everyone tends to give high-five after each point.
Such a great sport!!
Communication is enough just to smile and high-five or one word, like “Nice!” “Awesome!”

チームプレイ
知っての通りバレーボールはチームプレイで参加者はいくつかのチームに分けられます。そして声を掛け合いお互いフォローしながらプレーすることで自然とチームメイトと仲良くなります。
ほんと「ナイス トライ！」「ナイスプレー！」みたいな感じだけで。
たとえお互い違う国籍で違う人種、違うバックグラウンドだとしても短い言葉だけで友達になれるってことがスポーツの最大の魅力だと僕は思います。
また、テレビで見たことがある人もいると思いますが、バレーボールでは得点が決まるごとにみんなでハイタッチします。
素敵なスポーツですね。
コミュニケーションってのは笑ってハイタッチするとか「いいね！」みたいな短い言葉だけで最初は十分なんです。
Beginners are welcome
Many volleyball events have a lot of beginners and no one seems to mind if they can’t play volleyball at all.（I was also beginner）
Everyone doesn’t mind no matter how terrible my mistake is, and everyone say
“It’s just fun. Try anything”
That’s why super easy to join even if you’re beginner. As you play, you’ll improve and you ‘ll get used to the environment as well.
When starting something, everyone is a beginner at first.

多くのバレーボールイベントにはたくさんの初心者がいて、全然うまくプレーできなくても誰も気にしません。(僕も全くの初心者でした)
どんなにひどいミスをしても嫌な顔されたことないし、みんな口をそろえてこう言います
「ただただ楽しむだけ。なんでも挑戦してみ！」
だから初心者も参加しやすいし、プレーしていく内に上手くなり環境にも慣れてきます。
何事も始める時はみんな初心者ですから。
